Beschreibung:

Peter Hayes (British) The Bench Bronze No 2 of Edition of 2 130cm high, 173cm wide, 67cm deep On view at: The Sculpture Park The other cast of this work was sold at Sothebys London (Modern and Post-war British Art, 10-11 May 2012, lot 160). Bench is a rare example of Hayes work in the medium of bronze. His oeuvre consists primarily of ceramics, such as the raku example in lot 72 of this sale. Hayes is inspired by archaeological fragments and shards, as well as his extensive travels, discovering ceramics techniques working with craftsmen in Africa and Asia. Hayes ceramics acquire their distinctive texture and appearance through processes such as Raku firing, or being submerged in river or sea water. This element of external and natural involvement is present in Bench, the rich brown patination of the bronze slowly changing through use.
