Peter Sellers A three-page typescript letter, addressed and signed, from Peter Sellers, 924 Hillcrest Road, Beverly Hills, California, U.S.A., to Britt Sellers, dated Sunday 15th [March 1964], describing a recent house party he had thrown where he had shown the new Bridget Bardot film and The Great Escape , and describes how he absorbs himself into a role, searching for the character and trying to get inside him 'I live him when I can. I become him if I am lucky' but at the end of the day when trying to leave the character at the studio 'he nearly always follows me home, or lingers slyly in the back of my mind' . Sellers alludes to his insecurities and jealousies when watching Bridget Bardot in a bedroom scene from the movie and how 'Suddenly it was no longer Miss. Bardot, it was you!....I was in agony' . He goes onto describe his feelings of paronia when watching John Leyton in the Great Escape who was at that time working with Ekland in England and whom she had to kiss in a screen test. He recalls an actor telling him that he always became involved with the actresses he worked with, otherwise it did not look real, and how 'the thought of this made me break out into a cold sweat and want to be sick' . Realising that he has worked himself into a state, Sellers adds 'They say all comedians are sad...Still I'm not really a comedian. I dont know what I am ...and tells his plans for the next day and for when he sees her next, handwritten signature
