The Prior and Posterior Analytics are two books from the Organon dealing with syllogisms. Philoponus (c. 490-c. 570), also known as "John the Grammairian", was an Alexandrian philologist, a Christian theologian and Aristotelian commentator who broke from the Neoplatonic tradition, questioning methodology and eventually leading to empiricism in the natural sciences. He was one of the first to propose a "theory of impetus", reminiscent of the modern concept of "inertia" over Aristotelian dynamics. Neat typography in two columns with schemes, some ornemental initials and devices of Valgrisi. ¶ Édition originale de la traduction (par Al. Guistiniani et J.M. Rota) des commentaires de Philoponus des Premières et Secondes Analytiques d'Aristote. Plein veau de l'ép. (dos manquant, plats détachés).
