[PHOTOBOOK-JAPANESE] TOMATSU, SHOMEI and DOMON, KEN Hiroshima-Nagasaki Document 1961. N.p. but likely Tokyo: The Japan Council Against Atomic & Hydrogen Bombs, 1961. First edition. Full white cloth with circular design in black based on the blast radii, with the accompanying data booklet in wrappers, both in the original purple card sleeve, the whole retained in a modern cloth clamshell case. 11 x 11 inches (28 x 28 cm); unpaginated; photographs after Domon and Tomatsu throughout. Some wear to the cardboard sleeve, minor toning to the cloth, in all a sound copy . First edition of this major and deeply compelling photobook, which expresses the extraordinary damage, both to individuals and to the national psyche, caused by the two atomic holocausts. Tomatsu's work is metaphorical and darkly lyrical, whereas Domon's is deeply grueling and profoundly disturbing, including photographs of reconstructive surgery on the victims of the blasts. Auer 412; Parr/Badger Photobook 274. C
