(Photographica & Stereo, 5th May 2021) Karl Blossfeldt (1866-1932) Karl Blossfeldt (1866-1932) ART FORMS IN NATURE, c.1928. Photogravures (22), image size, 285 x 220mm, loose album pages (page size, 315 x 245mm), printed page numbers in lower margins, some pages with pencil annotations in margins, one page with a pencil sign upper margin. (Qty: 22) Karl Blossfeldt (1865–1932) was a German photographer, mainly known for his unique photographic plant portraits, created to support his argument that all forms created by man, have their origins in nature. Blossfeldt was a self-taught photographer, and professor at the Royal School of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin. Blossfeldt’s fusion of scientific observation, sculptural form and abstract compositions pioneered an artistic style that forged new approaches to modern art and photography. Indeed, in his photographs, the intricate forms and peculiar aspects of flora resemble architectural structures and ornamented patterned surfaces of modernist designs.
