Pictorial History of The Great Eastern Steam-Ship, W.H. Smith and Son, publisher, London, probably third quarter 19th century, a souvenir booklet with color lithographs and printed engravings of the steam ship which navigated between England, the East Indies, China, and Australia, 42 pages, (cover wear), 16 x 11 1/8 in. Note: The Great Eastern was designed by Isamard Kin, launched off Deptford January 3, 1858, and commanded by Captain William Harrison. The ship was innovative because its size and capacity allowed it to store all the coal it needed for an entire trip, not having to stop in out-of-the-way coaling stations, as earlier steam vessels.
