Beschreibung:

PIERRE FORTIER (DATES UNKNOWN) SEE THE NEW STREAMLINED MERCURY / NEW YORK CENTRAL. 1939. 35x23 inches, 89x58 1/2 cm. Condition B: losses and skinning in margins and across lower text; repaired tears at top edge, into image; tape on verso; staining in margins and image. Printed on thick paper. The Mercury went into service for the New York Central Line in 1936. The trains ran between Midwestern cities Toledo, Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and Cincinnati. The streamlined trainset, in its entirety, was designed by famed industrial designer Henry Dreyfus. Because of his success with the Mercury, Dreyfuss received the commission to design the 20th Century Limited. Following the popularity of that train, his 1939 redesign for the Mercury engines reflected their look. This rare image invited the public to view the new train at Chicago's Central Station.
