R. Crumb CONSPIRACY STOMP Poster * 1968 * Burn Baby BURN

Estimate

Price realised:
US$750
Beschreibung:

Original color poster on heavy paper stock, measuring 14x15¾". Fair condition, with a cigarette (reefer?) burn measuring 5", soiling, toning, small bit of paper/tape residue, and some spotting (mildew?) to top edge. One of Crumb's few original poster designs (most Crumb posters feature images cadged from his comics). The poster was created to promote a November 28, 1969 benefit gala for the "Chicago Eight" defendants, who were charged with conspiracy and incitement to riot at the 1968 Democratic Convention. The accused included Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden, Bobby Seale and others (the charges against Seale were dropped, causing the remaining defendants to become famous as the "Chicago Seven"). The poster is marred by a cigarette (or reefer) burn, providing an inadvertent nod to the Sixties slogan "Burn, baby, burn." A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact [email protected] . Consignments welcome for PBA's December 2021 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Send inquiries to [email protected] .
