FIRST EDITION of an interesting cookery book containing many new receipts, as well as much other useful information on dining in the late 17th century including suggestions for eating al fresco (in grottoes, gardens, woods, etc.). The preface is remarkable for containing Robert's jealous diatribe against La Varenne, mostly as a result of all the editions that had appeared of the latter's Cuisinier françois since its first publication in 1651 up until the appearance of the above work which, to Robert's chagrin, was never reprinted.
