Coppied by Sir Tho: Overbury . London: by William Wilson for Abel Roper, 1648. 4 o (175 x 130 mm). 20 leaves. Etched frontispiece portrait of Raleigh by John Whittakers. (Some light marginal browning.) Modern mottled calf gilt, edges stained yellow, by Riviere. Provenance : purchased from Dawsons, London, 21 June 1972. FIRST EDITION. Overbury's narrative of the 1603 trial of Sir Walter Raleigh extends to page 25, after which follows "The proceedings against Sir Walter Rawleigh" and two of his letters. These final letters could possibly have been supplied by Overbury, who was murdered in 1613. RARE, only two copies have appeared in ABPC in the last 30 years.
