Reminiscences of German Rocketry Author: Von Braun, Wernher Place: London Publisher: British Interplanetary Society Date: 1956 Description: Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, Vol. 15, No. 3, May-June 1956, pp. 125-145. Illustrated with a photo of Von Braun. Complete issue in original printed wrappers Von Braun’s reminiscence was told to Henry J. White who had been the U. S. Naval Air Attache in Hitler's Berlin at the start of World War II. (Fluent in German, he translated von Braun's "Mars Project.") It begins with his youthful fascination with Hermann Oberth’s theories of interplanetary travel in 1928 and ends with the first launch of Nazi Germany’s V-2 rockets against England at the end of World War II. Von Braun claimed that he and his German scientist colleagues regretted that the “first step to interplanetary rocketry had joined in the bloody business of war,” and asked themselves, “Did We Hit the Wrong Planet?” Lot Amendments Condition: Very good.
