REPTON, HUMPHRY. Sketches and Hints on Landscape Gardening. Collected from Designs and Observations now in the possession of the different Noblemen and Gentlemen, for whose use they were originally made. The whole tending to establish fixed principles in the art of laying out ground. London [1794]. Oblong 4to, 280 x 380mm. (11 x 15in.), contemporary marbled boards, uncut, rebacked with new gray paper, very faint dampstain at front affecting the preliminary leaves, occasional minor browning in folds. FIRST EDITION, 16 aquatint plates: 10 of them hand-colored (all with overslips) and 4 of them double-page; 6 uncolored plates (4 with overslips); all the plates within gray wash borders; half-title. Abbey Scenery 388. A prospectus: "In the course of the Year 1793 will be published, No. I. of Sketches and Hints...", one page, oblong 4to, creased and repaired at top , is laid in.
