ROLLAND, Romain (1866-1944). Seven autograph letters signed (including one incomplete) to Luc Durtain, Monsieur Gibbs and an unidentified correspondent (5), Villeneuve and n.p., 13 February 1913 - 27 December 1938 , referring to a bibliography and with details of articles about himself and his works, replying to questions about the American writer Upton Sinclair and 'Je ne crois pas que vous rencontrerez jamais un homme ou une femme qui puisse vous renseigner avec exactitude sur ma vie interieure car je ne l'ai guère confiée', writing when about to meet Stefan Zweig and Rilke; praising a work by Roger Martin and writing to Luc Durtain to thank him lavishly for his book, 'On disait quelquesfois d'un Balzac qui avait la vision paroptique. Pour ceux qui ne savent voir qu'avec leur deux yeux c'est presque hallucinant', and to M. Gibbs (an editor) about his derisory terms for editions of Antoinette and other works; returning a manuscript, unread, and generally on literary and publishing matters, 17¼ pages, 8vo and 12mo (all on guards, one letter lacking first page).
