THE 1990 ROMANÉE-CONTI The 1990 Romanée-Conti, picked at 32 hl/ha (2089.6 gallons/acre), was hailed by Michael Broadbent as "a 'cathedral' wine, no doubt the only vintage, along with 1988, able to support the comparison with the greatest and most sublime of the prewar vintages of Romanée-Conti. Such aromatic refinement in a wine as concentrated as this is difficult to believe!" Allen Meadows too, has to weigh in: "This is a dramatic wine in every sense of the word yet it's not at all showy but rather discreet and understated. I particularly like the sense of inner power and purity of expression and this is as good a post '45 RC as I ever hope to drink. It should last for another 50 years and if you ever have the chance, don't miss it!" In short, wine critics agree: the 1990 RC is one of the greatest modern Burgundies ever.
