ROSA, Salvator (1615-1673) – A collection of engravings and etchings, most by Salvatore Rosa, 17th and 18th century.
ROSA, Salvator (1615-1673) – A collection of engravings and etchings, most by Salvatore Rosa, 17th and 18th century. 20 engravings and etchings, various sizes (c.525-720 x 365-480mm, and the reverse) including 10 by Salvator Rosa mounted into a 2° album (750 x 515mm). (One plate backed on paper, occasional short tears of which some repaired, occasional light soiling and light spotting, Rubens plate browned.) 19th-century half calf, flat spine lettered directly in gilt, Westminster arms in gilt at spine foot, sides with palmette roll toll in blind (joints starting, spine ends chipped, corners rubbed). Provenance : Hugh Lupus, 1st Duke of Westminster (1825-1899; binding). A group of large prints, ten of these by Salvator Rosa including his large format La cadita dei Giganti, Edipo, La morte di Attilio Regolo, La crocifissione di Policarte . Other works in this album include Diana and Her Nymphs, Hunting by Goupy after Rubens, and an etching by Bartolozzi after Carracci.
