Occasional age toning, residue of gum arabic staining on margins of some plates, chart separated at one fold, text block detached from binding. First edition. A stunning collection of hand finished portraits of the Romanov family from 1599 1896. Unlike the more commonly seen Moscow edition, this extremely rare collection of plates are hand-finished with brilliant colors, and was possibly commissioned as a separate production for the Romanov family. The only other copy located is an incomplete portfolio of plates in the Library of Congress. See illustration.
