Royalty.- The Queen's Beasts..., lithographed illustrations after designs by Bawden and Keeling, loosely inserted small printed folded sheet from The Shell Petroleum Company with handwritten note to David McAdam Eccles, 1st Viscount Eccles from Shell Managing Director Francis John Hopwood, 1953 § Tanner (Lawrence F.) The History of the Coronation, illustrations, compliments slip with dedication to Eccles from Castleton Knight to front pastedown, 1952 § Sitwell (Maj.-Gen. H.D.W.) The Crown Jewels..., number 74 of 99 copies signed by the author, colour plates, captioned tissue guards, black & white illustrations, Dropmore Press, 1953, first original morocco-backed boards, gilt cypher of Elizabeth II bordered by representations of the beasts to upper board, last original half morocco with gilt crown to upper board, second original cloth, each a little rubbed, last slip-case; and 18 others, v.s. (21) ⁂The note in first reads: "My dear Eccles | Here is a copy of the | 'Queen's Beasts'. I hope | that it will come up to your | expectations. Everybody should be grateful to you for your inspiration in securing them for the Coronation. | Yours | Hopwood". David McAdam Eccles, 1st Viscount Eccles (1904-99) Conservative politician; as Minister of Works he organized the 1953 Coronation. Castleton Knight (1894-1970) film director and producer: his most celebrated work, A Queen is Crowned, the film of the 1953 Coronation.
