Rozenburg den Haag Pottery Tile Designed by T.A.C. Colenbrander, The Hague, c. 1888, the rectangular tile with cream-colored ground and decorated in light and dark blue and light green arabesques, with designer's early monogram "WvG" and "den Haag/ D." on the reverse, framed, tile size 16 3/4 x 25 in. Provenance: Purchased by Herman Dommisse in 1974 and sold at Sotheby's Amsterdam on March 10th, 1986. Afterward owned by Richard Mills, who sold it to the current owner. Literature: Illustrated in Rozenburg 1883-1917: Geschiedenis van een Haagse Fabriek, published by Haags Gemeentemuseum, p. 179, and Rozenburg: Plateel uit Haagse Kringen (1883-1917), by Yvonne Brentjens, p. 60. N. B. This tile is purportedly one of six commissioned for a mantelpiece of a 19th century townhouse at the Amsteldijk, Amsterdam. The tile was removed in 1974 during renovations; the other five did not survive removal.
