BOBISHOV, MIKHAIL PAVLOVICH. 1884-1964. Zhivopis i teatr [Paintings and the Theater]. Leningrad: Izd. Akademii Khudozhesrv, 1928. 8vo. Publisher's two-color decorated wrappers designed by Iu. Skallinn. One of 1,100 copies. Minor wear. 3. SOVIET THEATER. TAM. Leningrad: SOKOL, 1929. Thin 8vo. Unpaginated. Publisher's two-color Constructivist off-white wrappers. With a photograph of the desk in the theater laid in at front. Wrappers worn, soiled. From the very beginnings of the Bolshevik regime, the theater was crucial to the aims of Marxist agitational propaganda. It helped sell the Revolution to the Masses. Alexandra Exter was among the finest of the Russian Avant-Garde stage and costume designers.
