Rivista da Frate Egnatio Danti Cosmografo Del Gran Duca di Toscana. Florence: "Nella Stamperia de Giunta," 1571 [but colophon dated 1572]. 4to (203 x 140mm). Title with woodcut baroque border and elaborate device, headpieces, initials and ornaments, woodcut portrait of Ignazio Dante, the translator, diagrams, 2 of which full-page, errata leaf at end with large woodcut printer's device on verso (variable light staining throughout, darker spots on portrait). Modern parchment, new endpapers, red edges. Provenance: old inscription deleted on verso of title. First Italian edition. Adams H740 (cited under "Holywood"); Houzeau & Lancaster 1641; Riccardi I, 390; Sander 6666. First published in Ferrara in 1472, "La Sfera" (as here translated) remained the standard work of pre-Copernican cosmography throughout the 16th-century.
