Dalí war Maler, Grafiker, Schriftsteller, Bildhauer, Bühnenbildner und Schauspieler. 1928 ging er nach Paris und lernte die surrealistische Bewegung kennen. Mit einer Ausstellung surrealistischer Arbeiten in der Julien Levy Gallery in New York wurde er auch in den USA bekannt. 1941 fand hier seine erste Retrospektive statt. Dalí ist einer der bekanntesten Protagonisten des Surrealismus und erhielt zahlreiche internationale Auszeichnungen.
