Samuel Marti, Paris, a French gilt and porcelain mantel clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell and stamped on the backplate with the trademark of the maker S Marti, Paris along with the serial number 1407, the round painted porcelain dial having black Roman hour numerals on a blue ground, decorative floral decoration and spade hands, the gilt-metal case inset to the side mounts with round painted porcelain panels depicting flowers on a blue ground, with a further matching inset panel to the base and stamped to the rear with the case maker's details PH Mourey, 6 72 being the date of manufacture in 1872, height 38cm * Biography Samuel Marti was one of the prolific French makers of the 1800s and was known to be working circa 1860 at Le Pays de Montbeliard, making roulant blancs. Along with LP Japy and Roux they set up a business in 1863 to market their movements to such firms as L'Epee. Their Paris address was Rue Vieille-du-Temple from 1870.
