Geoffrey Scott in his letter presenting this book to Vita Sackville-West's mother, says that is is giving only three copies of the de luxe edition as presents, adding that he is giving to to Vita to take to her. Scott was for a time Vita's lover, apparently the only other masculine relationship known apart from her husband, Harold Nicolson. (4)
