SCOTTISH BINDING]. The Holy Bible, containing the Old Testament and the New. Edinburgh: John Baskett, 1726. 4 o. Ruled in red, numerous engraved illustrations (first few leaves repaired). Early 18th-century Scottish binding of black goatskin, the covers tooled in gilt with "herring-bone" design in a panel of single fillets and two rolls, one with serpentine stem pattern with berries, thistles, etc., leafy fronds at the corners of the panel with a distinctive leaf tool, florets, stars, pyramids of semi-circles, scrolls on a dotted background, spine elaborately gilt in seven compartments with matching design; "brokat papier" endpapers (minor wear to upper joint, minor dust soiling to covers); cloth folding case. Sold as a binding not subject to return.
