In his memoirs, Cordero, who worked as a proof-reader for Martin Nucius at Antwerp, recorded that his translation of Seneca was the first book to be printed by Plantin. The book is listed as the second of three works in the first privilege granted to Plantin on 5 April 1555; it is generally thought that Bruto, La institutions di unafanciulla nata nobilmente , was the first book produced by the Plantin press.
