Osborn and T. Longman 1726. 8vo, contemporary panelled calf, rebacked, corners renewed, folding map with minor repaired tears, title grubby and with a corner renewed. FIRST EDITION, engraved folding map frontispiece and 5 engraved plates (2 folding). "Shelvocke mentioned the gold of California and the guano of Peru, one hundred and thirty years before their modern discovery. An incident in the narrative, describing the passage around Cape Horn, is said to have inspired Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner ."--Hill, pp. 272-3; Sabin 80158; Howes S 383.
