(Sir Frederic Morton) The State of the Poor: or, An History of the Labouring Classes in England, 3 vol., first edition, presentation copy inscribed "From the Author" at head of title vol.1, half-titles, with the additional 3L3 in vol.2 and additional 8 leaves between pp.744 & 745 in vol.3, vol.3 with folding table but lacking Directions to Binder leaf at end, occasional light foxing or soiling but generally a clean copy, contemporary tree calf, rebacked and some corners repaired, rubbed, edges and corners a little worn, [Kress 3384; Goldsmiths’ 17107; PMM 249], 4to, 1797. *** First edition of Eden’s important work on poverty and the working classes. XVIII in vol.3 (pp.cclxvii-ccclxxxvi) is A Catalogue of Publications in the English Language on Subjects relative to the Poor.
