Lot of 6 CDVs. An unknown ensign wearing the simple insignia prescribed under the 1862 Regulations, namely a single band on the cuff coupled with an a canted anchor on the shoulder strap. The photographer originally inked his location as "99 Camp St., N.O" probably due to his stock printed cards being used up. CDV of who is probably a freshly minted lieutenant commander created on July 16, 1862 although the shoulder straps device is washed out and unreadable. Photograph by "Bingham's, Memphis, Tenn." A sharp photograph of a young ensign with single cuff stripe beneath star and canted anchor on shoulder straps (1864 Regulations), with imprint of "A.D. Lytle, Baton Rouge, La." Carte de visite of subject who is probably a master having shoulder straps with a single rank pipe and partially visible anchor device in middle (1864 Regulations). Late war carte photographed by "J.B. Leonard, Mound City, ILL." An uncommon view of a Fleet or Chief Engineer (over 15 years experience) indicated by the double cluster of three cuff bands (missing star) and shoulder strap with spread eagle devise (1864 Regulations). This CDV by "Leon Van Loo, Cincinnati." A Fleet Paymaster wore nearly identical insignia differentiated only by the style of the spread eagle devise on the shoulder strap. Last is a uncommon likeness of a Master's Mate or possibly a late war Midshipman (1864 Regulations) cradling his M1852 officer's sword by "H.A. Balch, Memphis Tenn." Midshipmen/Master's Mates were authorized neither shoulder straps or cuff bands (having only a star) and wore a simple wreath on the undress cap without an interior device. The Richard B.
