Title: Society As I Have Found It - Edition de Luxe of 400 copies Author: McAllister, Ward Place: New York Publisher: Cassell Publishing Date: [1890] Description: xv, 469 pp. Frontispiece portrait of the author. 25.3x18.3 cm. (10x7¼"), gold and blue cloth, with gilt armorial device on front covers, spine lettered in silver, all edges gilt. No. 253 of 400 copies of this Edition De Luxe. Signed by Ward McAllister on the limitation statement. McAllister (1827-1895) was a wealthy San Francisco lawyer who moved to New York City and married a millionaire's daughter. This is his memoirs, with accounts of his travels to Europe and his involvement in various society affairs. McAllister is credited with saying that only 400 people in New York's elite society really mattered, thus the De Luxe edition printed in a limitation of 400. Lot Amendments Condition: Edge wear, light soiling; light foxing to early leaves and a few pen marks on frontispiece; very good. Item number: 226922
