SP A vintage 13.8 x 8.7cm, head and shoulders postcard photo by Albert Witzel of a young Charlie Chaplin, signed in black ink across the printed signature "Charlie Chaplin". Light wear to corners. Accompanied by a letter written on headed "Charles Chaplin, Los Angeles California" paper, signed at foot "Chas. Chaplin". Letter reads: "Sept. 17/15, Dear Mr Whitehead, I am as much alive as ever. I am enclosing a photo". Sold with the original envelope postmarked "Los Angeles, September 17, 6 pm, 1915". Mr Whitehaed read that Chaplin had been involved in a car accident and wrote to him to know about his health condition. The letter is Chaplin's reply. Lot also includes a 22.3 x 17.5cm sepia, head and shoulders photo of Mary Pickford by Fred Hartsook signed in blue ink to lower left corner "Sincerely Mary Pickford". Mounted on cardboard of same size and trimmed in a slightly irregular way. Ink slightly faded, but Pickford signature remains clear and crisp. A pair of nice photographs of two leading actors in early Hollywood and founding members of United Artists motion picture studio.
