SPAIN]. Three documents relating to Spanish history, comprising: TOLEDO, Maria de Vice-Reine of the Indies. Document (?possibly signed at the head of second page), 25 August 1542, order for the examination of workmen wishing to go to Jamaica and conditions for their employment, manuscript on paper, 1½ pages, folio , written in brown ink in a Spanish secretarial hand (some wear at margins, two worm holes to second page); SPANISH INQUISITION. Document signed by three Inquisitors, 5 April 1601, summoning Don Pedro Fernandez de Valdibia as a 'Familiar' of the Holy Office of the Inquisition for the city of Cordoba, in Spanish, decorated manuscript on vellum, with three-sided decorative border in red, blue, green and brown with very elaborate strapwork, one membrane, approximately 300 x 620mm (some wear and discolouring, punctures around remains of papered seal); BARCELONA. Notarial document issued in the name of Petrus de Serra, Barcelona, 3 March 1314, acknowledging a payment, with notarial mark and endorsement of Berenguer Gomar, in Latin on vellum, one membrane, 220 x 300mm , later endorsements on verso (old damp staining to right margin). Maria de Toledo was the wife of Columbus's son and heir Diego Columbus, who succeeded his father as Admiral and Viceroy of America. (3)
