Die trauende Maria steht hier am Fuße des Kreuzes auf einem Sockel, der den felsigen Untergrund des Berges Golgotha andeuten soll. Die zu ihren Füßen kriechende Schlange, die Erbsünde und das Böse an sich symbolisierend, und der Strahlenkranznimbus gehören zum Immaculata-Typus, einer für die Barockzeit üblichen Mariendarstellung.

South Germany 18th C. Carved wood, painted in polychrome colours and partially gilt. Christ on the cross with his feet nailed side by side on a base imitating a landscape with lamenting Mary and a snake. Signs of age, missing parts.
H 67,3, W 25, D 16 cm.
The mourning Mary stands here at the foot of the cross on a pedestal that is supposed to indicate the rocky ground of Mount Golgotha. The serpent crawling at her feet, symbolizing original sin and evil itself, and the halo of rays belong to the Immaculata type, a representation of the Virgin Mary common in the Baroque period.
