The Minister's Wooing. London: Sampson Low, Son & Co., February-November 1859. 14 parts in 10. 8vo (199 x 128 mm). 12 plates by H.K. Browne ("Phiz"). Advertisements: 2 pp perfumery ad on lavender paper at backs of part 1/2, 5, 7, 11/12, and 13/14; 4 pp publisher's catalog at back of part 3; 2 pp Rowlands' ad at back of part 6; 10 pp ads at back of part 7; 4 pp Dr. De Jongh's ad on pink paper at back of part 8, and on yellow paper at back of part 13/14. Original blue pictorial wrappers. Custom chemise and slipcase. Some minor spotting, 2 x 2 inch chip to front wrapper of part 1/2. Exhibited: Grolier Club, 'Essential Parts,' 1996, p 21. FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL MONTHLY PARTS. Precedes the American edition. An un-illustrated English edition in parts was published concurrently with the present edition. 4 parts are double-issues: 1/2, 9/10, 11/12, and 13/14. The final part contains a one page preface not included in the US edition. Very rare in parts, we locate no copies in the auction records for the past 30 years. No copy of this work is listed in ABPC since 1977. BAL 19406.
