SWISS. AN INTERESTING 18K GOLD AND ENAMEL QUARTER REPEATING OPENFACE WATCH WITH CONCEALED COMPLICATED AUTOMATON SCENE, MADE FOR THE CHINESE MARKET Unsigned, circa 1810 With gilt-finished cylinder movement, quarter repeating on a bell, white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, blued steel hands, the case with finely painted enamel scene to the reverse, depicting a pastoral scene showing a lady standing in the river beside some cows, a boy playing a musical instrument on the opposite shore, waterfall, mountains and countryside in the background, engraved decorative band, upon releasing a catch the back opens to reveal a three-coloured gold complicated four automata scenes with a gentleman cutting branches from a tree, his arm moving up and down, in the centre an ox is grazing, also lifting its head up and down, to the right there is a watermill with revolving wheel and moving glass rod simulating the pumping water, all raised and against a painted enamel background of a river, bridges and old buildings, start/stop lever at the edge, unsigned 58 mm. diam.
