With bookplate on verso front wrappers and owner's entry "B. Scholte. Mei. 1941" and small ink stain on title. Spine-ends split, new staples, small tear (upper margin) and finger soiled. 16 pp. Together with: Autograph letter to Bep Scholte, one page in ink, folded once, undated. Signed "Uw innig toegenegen Gerard". The letter accompanies 9 autograph poems, numbered I-IX, on similar paper, all with three horizontal folds: I. 'Ter verontschuldiging', as 'Correspondentie - verontschuldiging' in 'Terugkeer' and with one correction: "geroerde' in 'Terugkeer' is in the autograph version 'beroerde'; II 'Nacht aan het front'; III. 'Melancholieke scholier'; IV. 'Minuten-geluk'; V. 'Stil gelag'; VI. 'Bioscoop'; VII. 'Ode aan de amusementsmuziek', in 'Terugkeer' without title; VIII. 'Verloochening van de middelbare school'; IX. 'Tsjaikowski: Capricio Italien'; and [X]. 'Jaloerse critiek', a poem on Jan de Bruin the boy friend of Bep Scholte, typescript on different paper, with a practically invisible correction on a little strip of paper pasted on the sheet, folded twice and added in another hand: "Gedichtje dat Gerard van 't Reve schreef op Jan de Bruin". II, VI, VIII, IX and [X] not in 'Terugkeer' and published for the first time in 1981. Extraordinary collection comprising Reve's earliest, hand written poetry as well as his first ephemeral, privately printed work Terugkeer, at the time available for free for girls and for 25 cts. for boys, nowadays the priceless Holy Grail of Reve collecting. Poem no. II, VI, VIII, IX and X were not included in 'Terugkeer'. The series of poems sent to Bep Scholte (BEP) can be considered as complementary to the typed collection he gave to Stien Amende (STI), which was acquired lately by the Literatuurmuseum in The Hague. Of these three sources, Terugkeer, Stien Amende and Bep Scholte, only the latter - now for sale - contains autograph poems!. Both Stien and Bep received five poems that weren’t published for the next four decades.
