(8vo) 9½x6½", original red cloth, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed, gilt-lettered spines. One of 1210 sets. First Editions. Dustin calls this a valuable work, but believes some important facts were omitted. "This classic Clark title recounts the federal government's attempt to open a road north from the Oregon Trail through the Powder River country, hunting grounds of the Sioux, in the late 1860s."
