The David Griffiths Reference Library of Token Literature Pye, C., Provincial Copper Coins or Tokens, Issued Between the Years 1787 and 1796, Engraved by Charles Pye of Birmingham, From the Originals in his Own Possession. 1st edn, London, Published for the Engraver by John Nichols nd (1795). 8vo, contemporary maroon half calf, marbled boards, bound from the original blue paper wrappers as published, which are preserved at end. Engraved title with large vignette by Pye; Advertisement leaf by Pye dated 1795; 36pp. fine engraved plates (obverse and reverse of 186 tokens); 3pp. Index with manuscript figures in margin. A note signed by Waters states ‘I would never discover what the figures indicated’. Printed notices tipped-in before plates 1, 22 and 31.
