The Fine Collection of Dress Miniatures formed by the late Derek Robinson The mounted group of five miniature dress medals attributed to General Sir A. J. Lyon-Fremantle, Coldstream Guards, Order of the Bath, Military Division, gold and enamel, straight bar suspension, gold buckle on ribbon; Jubilee 1887, silver; Egypt, undated, 1 clasp, Suakin 1885; Turkey, Order of Medjidie, silver, gold and enamel, rosette on ribbon; Khedive’s Star 1884, mounted as worn, some contact marks, generally good very fine (5) £140-180 Footnote General Sir Arthur James Lyon Fremantle was born in 1835 and educated at Sandhurst. He entered the Army in 1852 as an Ensign in the Coldstream Guards and attained the rank of Major-General in 1881. In the Sudan Campaign he commanded at the defence of Suakin from July 1884 to February 1885 and later commanded the Brigade of Guards at Hasheen and Tamaai. For his services in the Sudan, he was mentioned in despatches, awarded the C.B. and the Order of Medjidie 2nd Class. Created a K.C.M.G. in 1894 and G.C.M.G. in 1898, he attained the rank of General in 1896 and held the post of Governor of Malta between 1894 and 1899. General Lyon-Fremantle died in 1901.
