Place: New York Publisher: Putnam Date: 1877 Description: lv, 448 pp. Introduction by William Blackmore. Illustrated with 19 wood-engraved plates; folding map. 9x5½, original green cloth, gilt cover vignette, spine lettered in gilt, beveled edges. First Edition. Probably preceded by the English edition, which had the title The Hunting Grounds of the Great West, which is the half-title of the American edition. Howes gives the American edition precedence, and both Howes and Graff list the English edition as 1877, but Rader places the English publication date at 1876. Graff 1112 (Eng. ed.); Howes D404; Rader 1173 Lot Amendments Condition: Some rubbing and extremity wear to covers, small stain to front cover; 2½" crease tear to map, else very good.
