While the 1850 issue has a small woodcut of gold digging in California, the 1851 and 1853 editions are more notable, with two woodcut views of San Francisco, in 1848 and 1849, the aforementioned depiction of "Gold Digging in California," and a significant map, "Valleys of the Sacramento and San Joaquin. Engraved for the Poetical Geography." Warren Heckrotte notes that "The map is a very close copy of the map in W. Colton's The Land of Gold: Three Years in California, 1850."
