The Porsche 928 was a sports-GT sold from 1978 to 1995 and was immediately a hit with the orders in the UK far outstripping demand. Originally intended to replace the company's iconic 911, the 928 attempted to combine the power, poise, and handling of a sports car with the refinement, comfort, and equipment of a luxury sedan to create what some Porsche executives thought would be a vehicle with wider appeal than the compact, quirky and sometimes difficult 911. The 928 qualified as a 2+2, having two small seats in the rear. Both rear seats could be folded down to enlarge the luggage area and both the front and rear seats had sun visors for occupants. Porsche's design and development efforts paid off during the 1978 European Car of the Year competition where the 928 won ahead of the BMW 7-series and the Ford Granada. The 928 is the only sports car so far to have won this competition as the usual winners were mainstream hatchbacks and saloons from major European manufacturers. This is regarded as proof of how advanced the 928 was compared to its contemporaries. This 928 S4 has been fully maintained throughout its life having over £15,000 spent on it in the last ten years this included a suspension and brake overhaul in 2005, a replacement gearbox in 2006 and more recently in 2012 over £4,000 was spent on a full service, cam belts, water pump, suspension arms, brake hoses and a new steering rack. Last year this Porsche had the ABS system repaired, two new tyres and a new battery, the car has covered less than 2000 miles since all the work was carried out in 2012. This Porsche 928 S4 automatic is finished in dark Green with tan interior and is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in December 2014, the original handbook/service book pack and a file containing invoices, eighteen previous MoT test certificates and twenty four old tax discs. Ready to be used this retro classic has certainly been cherished and is very competitively priced.
