The Port of Trieste, Ancient and Modern (in Journal of the Society of Arts October 29, 1875 [and] November 5, 1875) Author: Burton, Richard F. Place: London Publisher: Society of Arts Date: 1875 Description: Two issues of the Journal of the Society of Arts bound together, containing the two parts of Burton's article. With 5 plates, including 3 plans of the Port of Trieste and several tables. The wrappers are not bound in, but otherwise the issues are complete. (8vo) three quarter polished calf and green pebbled cloth, gilt-stamped spine; marbled endpapers. Burton became Consul at Trieste in 1872. Here he offers an overview of the history of the Port from Roman times to the modern "Commercial Period," including much detail on current economic activities and an analysis of recent construction and development. Lot Amendments Condition: Areas of loss to spine strip; faint vertical crease to interior; very good. Item number: 320625
