The Romer family archive:- seven leather-bound photograph albums covering the period 1878/1947 and forming an extensive collection of captioned photographs together with a very large amount of associated ephemera relating to Malcom Romer, who served with 6th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers during the Boer War and also in the Scots Guards, his son Malcolm Nigel Romer and his younger brother George, also Colonel F.C.Romer. ALBUM 1, (1878-1906 Malcolm Romer)- childhood, school groups at Warren Hill & Eton, 1890's service in the 6th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers, including groups of officers, full dress 1899, Band & Drums at camp, 1899, manoeuvres 1898, Bury Barracks, 1899, groups of officers in service dress with helmet flashes at Chatham prior to departure for South Africa, 1900, regiment drawn up in greatcoats and tropical helmets prior to departure, Corps of Drums posing on service in South Africa, numerous photos of service in South Africa, a charming hand-drawn menu for the 6th Bn. done in crayon at the Orange River, June 8th 1900, a good group of "G" Coy. at Fort Munster, Orange River, a fine named group of officers, 3rd Bn Scots Guards, in full dress with bearskins, various School of Musketry groups at Hythe, 1903/04, numerous R/P postcards of Scots Guards personnel including the Drum Major & Pipe Major, Corps of Drums, NCO's etc, a group of officers of Scots Guards in full dress with bearskins, 1905 etc. ALBUM 2 (1906-1912 Malcolm Romer), officer group of 2nd Bn Scots Guards in full dress with bearskins, a fine full length portrait of Col F.C.Romer in Lancashire Fusiliers full dress as an A.D.C., 1908, O.T.C. groups, 1909, officer group of 1st Bn Scots Guards at Chelsea Barracks in full dress with bearskins, 1909, a group of "E" Coy 1st Bn Scots Guards, 1909 in white drill jackets and diced forage caps, a fine officer portrait in regimental blue frock coat and forage cap, groups of 1st Bn in Egypt 1911, various named officer portraits in khaki S/D in Cairo, 1911, programme for 1st Bn's military display in Cairo, 1911, Coronation parade, Cairo 1911, Transport ships, camps, social life in Cairo, polo, sports teams, regimental groups etc. ALBUM 3 (1912-1918 Malcom Romer), continuation of service in Egypt, 1912, various officer portraits, regimental groups, parades, a fine photo of the Sergeant's Annual Dinner at Shepheard's Hotel, Cairo 4/12/1912 together with the original menu, a fine group photo of Bn.
