Blue cloth lettered in white, cover illustrated in dark blue, orange, & white, top edge gilt. First Edition. BAL is undecided whether the gilt lettered or white lettered spine was issued first. Whitman Bennett writes: "Most copies are lettered entirely in white on both front cover and spine; but some few have been found with the spine only lettered in gold - and it is probable they were so stamped in error, being manifestly out of harmony, and are the earlier form..." -A Practical Guide to American Book Collecting (1663-1940), p. 19. Lot Amendments Condition: Small bumps at ends of somewhat leaning spine; binding starting to crack internally; Ownership marks on front free endpaper; very good or better. Item number: 304868
