Title: The Story of Ferdinand Author: Leaf, Munro Place: New York Publisher: Viking Press Date: 1936 Description: [72] pp. Illustrated by Robert Lawson 20.8x17.3 cm (8¼x7"), cloth backed pictorial boards, pictorial dust jacket. First Edition. First Edition with no additional printings listed and rear flap of dust jacket with price of $1.00. Ferdinand quickly became popular, striking a chord of anti-fight in a world infected by war. It was reprinted multiple times and made into an animated film by Disney in 1938. This copy inscribed by the author, and with a small sketch of a bull by him, on the verso of the front free endpaper: "For Howard Stewart with all the best from [sketch] Ferdinand and Munro Leaf." A highpoint in 20th century children's literature. Lot Amendments Condition: Dust jacket spine sunned, minor edge wear; volume fine, jacket very nearly so. Item number: 287414
