No. 723 of 750 copies of the Manuscript Edition. With a manuscript leaf by Muir mounted to a prelim. flyleaf of Vol. 1, describing, apparently, the cone from a Sierra-Nevada tree. The holograph text is written in two colors of ink with additional pencil emendations. The edited text reads: " . . . than before; their diameter being nearly doubled by the spreading of the scales, + their color changes to rich yellow brown. They remain on the tree all the following winter + summer until the ripening of a fresh crop, then they fall but continue to beautify the ground for many years after the fall . . . " Kimes 342. Lot Amendments Condition: An unopened, unread set in the publisher's original buckram. Spines sunned and with a couple minor stains to covers, top edges dust-soiled, spine labels dry and slightly faded, two with narrow chips to edges. Still a handsome set and internally fine.
