(2). ⁂ Elizabeth "Liz" Reitell (1920-2001), assistant to John Malcolm Brinnin, Director of the Poetry Center at the Young Men's and Young Women's Hebrew Association in New York city. Reitell had a love affair with Thomas in New York, and was present on 4 November when a doctor sedated him by injecting half a grain of morphine, which killed him. Shortly before he died he said to Reitell, "I love you, but I'm alone."
