Lot of 3: Cox, Robert Courton (1823-1901). Cox enlisted as a 39-year-old Major in Nov. 1862, and was commissioned into F&S of the 171st PA Infy. He mustered out in August, and the following September was made Colonel of the PA 207th Infy. He received a brevet BG in April 1865. Backmark of D.C. Burnite & Co., Harrisburg, PA. Curtin, John Irwin (1837-1911). Curtin enlisted in August 1861 as a Captain in Co. A, 45th PA Infy. He remained with the unit until the end of the war, but transferred to F&S in 1862. He received promotions to Major (7.30.62), Lt. Col. (4.13.63), and Col. (4.13.63). His brevet BG came in Oct. 1864. Backmark of Cross & Childs, Forts Richardson & Lyon, VA. Davis, William Watts Hart (1820-1910). Davis enlisted as a Captain on Lincoln's first call, even though he was 40-years-old. He was commissioned into Co. I, 25th PA Infy., a 3-month unit. He mustered out in August and in September, was commissioned Col. of the 104th PA Infy. He was discharged after his three years of service in that unit. He was awarded a brevet BG in March 1865. He is listed as wounded at Fair Oaks, VA in May 1862 and St. John's Island, SC in July 1864 (possibly the reason he did not veteranize in September), although he did live to the "ripe old age" of 90. Cdv with no photographer's ID. Provenance: The Robert Trownsell Collection Condition: Cox with clipped corners, minor foxing. Curtin with some toning and foxing. Davis with minor handling wear. All three with pencil IDs on verso.
