Three Japanese Anglo-Japanese Alliance 'Naval' silk embroideries, circa 1905, each with the two flags enclosing photographic portraits beneath, embroidered 'UNION OF ENGLAND JAPAN 1905', to inner mount 43cm x 38cm; 40.5cm x 37cm and 42.5cm x 39cm (3) The Anglo-Japanese Alliance, (1902-23), bound Britain and Japan to assist one another in safeguarding their respective interests in China and Korea. The alliance was signed on 30th January 1902. Directed against Russian expansionism in the Far East, the Anglo-Japanese alliance was renewed and expanded in scope twice, in 1905 and 1911, playing a major role in World War I before the alliance's demise in 1921 and termination in 1923. Condition Report: all framed and two glazed one missing glazing and this example with some fraying and discolouration to silk mainly on Union Jack the other two unexamined out of frames but condition looks generally good other than some fading commensurate with age and minor faults for more details regarding condition see additional images Condition Report Disclaimer
