(8vo) 9x6 full crushed red morocco, front cover elaborately tooled in gilt with black morocco onlaid roses at corners each studded with a red stone, gilt cross with decorative gilt oval surround at center set with four blue stones, rear cover with the same gilt and onlaid design but without the stones, spine in six gilt lettered and decorated compartments separated by five gilt topped raised bands, triple gilt-ruled dentelles, moire silk doublures and endleaves, all edges gilt. Bound by Sangorksi & Sutcliffe, signed in gilt inside front cover. Housed in a custom felt lined box. First Illustrated Edition. A fine example of Sangorski & Sutcliffe jeweled bindings. Inscribed by Costain on verso of map. Basis for the 1950 oscar-nominated movie of the same name starring Orson Welles and Tyrone Power.
